Energy Informatics.Academy Conference 2025 (EI.A 2025) invites global academics and industry professionals to submit their groundbreaking research, innovative developments, and transformative projects in the multidisciplinary field of energy informatics. Please seize this opportunity to share your work, engage in stimulating discussions with peers and industry experts, and contribute to the advancement of energy informatics!


This year, EI.A 2025, held at the Institute of Informatics and Computing in Energy (IICE), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, is co-hosted with the Summer School in Energy Informatics 2025 (1-2 December 2025).​

Call for Article Collections in Energy Informatics

The Energy Informatics Academy is pleased to announce three thematic article collections in the journal Energy Informatics, published by Springer Nature.
These collections are directly linked to the EI.A 2025 Special Sessions, and EI.A2025 authors will be invited to submit extended versions of their conference papers.
Open submissions from the broader research community are also welcome, provided they fall within the scope of the journal.

1. Context-Aware Digital Innovations for Energy Transitions

(Linked to EI.A 2025 Special Session: Local and Regional Perspectives in Energy Informatics)

This collection promotes global cross-learning, bringing together insights from the Nordic region, Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe, and beyond.

2. Thermal Storage and Flexibility in Buildings

(Linked to EI.A 2025 Special Session: Thermal Storage and Flexibility in Buildings: Digitalization, Control, and Market Integration of Activated Building Mass)

The collection is supported by IEA ES Task 43 and aims to accelerate TAB deployment in residential, commercial, and institutional buildings.

3. Enabling Climate Resilience and Energy Adaptation in Industry

(Linked to EI.A 2025 Special Session: Digital Innovation for Climate-Resilient Industrial Systems)

The collection aims to advance digital innovation for robust, low-carbon industrial systems.

Prof. Ir. Dr. Khairul Salleh Mohamed Sahari currently leads Universiti Tenaga Nasional as its Vice‑Chancellor and CEO. He brings strong leadership to the institution known as Malaysia’s "Energy University." As a key member of UNITEN’s top management, he actively drives research excellence, innovation, and robotics and AI advancement across university programs. His appointment reflects UNITEN’s strategic vision for future-ready education and research in energy informatics and related domains.

Chief Information Officer (CIO), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB)

As the Chief Information Officer for Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), Azlan Ahmad leads the company’s nationwide IT strategy and operations, spanning throughout the IT value chain which include IT infrastructure, network telecommunication, application and cybersecurity. He is responsible for deploying holistic, secure and sustainable technology solutions across the organisation, as well as driving the corporate digitalisation agenda. Azlan Ahmad earned a BSc. In Computation (Hons) from the University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology (UMIST), United Kingdom, and completed his Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM), Malaysia. With 31 years of sound IT management and technical experience, Azlan Ahmad has played a significant role in shaping the ICT outfit of TBN into what it is today. He is keen on harnessing technologies to create value and increase competitive advantage for the business. His vision is to elevate ICT Division as the strategic partner and leading technology and digital expert of TNB. In addition to his role as Chief Information Officer, Azlan Ahmad currently serves on the Board of Directors of Tenaga Switchgear Sdn. Bhd., Allo Technology Sdm. Bhd. And TNB-IT Sdn. Bhd.

The Tan Sri Leo Moggie Distinguished Chair in Energy Informatics at the Institute of Informatics and Computing in Energy (IICE), and the Director of the National Energy Centre (NEC), Universiti Tenaga Nasional (UNITEN)

Emeritus Prof. Dato’ Dr. Halimah Badioze Zaman is currently the Holder of the Tan Sri Leo Moggie Distinguished Chair in Energy Informatics at UNITEN’s Institute of Informatics and Computing in Energy (IICE), and Founder and Advisor of the National Energy Center (NEC) at UNITEN. She served as the longest-standing independent Director of MDEC (2019–2025) and spent four decades at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM). Moreover, she has worked closely with the Government and Industry, both nationally and globally. As a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences Malaysia, she has received numerous national and international accolades, including recognition as one of Asia’s Most Inspiring Icons by AirAsia Academy and the Kesatria Malaysia by MyCEB. Furthermore, she has had tremendous experience in organising national and international symposiums, conferences, and congresses in the field of Computer Science, Visual Informatics and Energy Informatics. In collaboration with the MOSTI and the MCMC respectively, she currently advises on major national initiatives, including the National AI Centre (NAIC) and the National Address System (NAS).

Polytechnic of Porto, Portugal

Prof. Zita Vale is Full Professor at the Polytechnic of Porto (IPP), Portugal, where she leads the GECAD – Research Group on Intelligent Engineering and Computing for Advanced Innovation and Development. Her research focuses on artificial intelligence, multi-agent systems, and knowledge engineering applied to power and energy systems. She has coordinated and participated in numerous national and international R&D projects in smart grids, energy communities, demand response, and electric mobility. Prof. Vale has published extensively in leading journals and conferences and is internationally recognized for her contributions to intelligent and decentralized decision support systems for sustainable energy. She also serves as Co-Editor-in-Chief of Applied Energy.

Prof. Li Xia is a Professor at the School of Business, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, China. His research interests include the methodology research on Markov decision processes and reinforcement learning, and the application research on energy system optimization and the integration of artificial intelligence in energy management. He has published extensively on renewable energy integration and reinforcement learning for real-time decision-making in complex energy systems. Prof. Xia leads several national research projects and actively collaborates with industry to develop practical solutions for low-carbon energy transitions. His work bridges operations research, artificial intelligence, and energy informatics to address key challenges in sustainable energy systems.

Dr. Hongbo Duan is a Professor in the School of Economics & Management at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences (UCAS) and a visiting Professor at the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Institute, University of Southern Denmark. Over the past decade, he has established himself as a leading expert in energy-economy-envionment (3E) integrated modeling, climate policy and energy transition analysis, and data-driven analytics for decarbonization. He is the developer of 3E digitalized platform-Ambition 3E (www.hongyuan3e.com/en). Prof. Duan has authored more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and serves as co-Editor-in-Chief of Mitigation & Adaptation Strategies for Global Change, also on editorial and advisory boards for several international journals. Prof. Duan’s research has been financially supported by the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), Ministry of Science and Technology, National Energy Administration (NEA), Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), and Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
