EnergyBuilder: A Lifecycle Approach for Clean Energy Integration through Digital Transformation of Buildings into Active Energy Prosumers

EnergyBuilder advances the digital transformation of buildings into active energy prosumers, applying digital twins and artificial intelligence to monitor, simulate, and optimise energy flows across electricity, heating, cooling, and mobility. The project delivers a modular digital twin platform, a smart Energy Management System, AI-based optimisation models, and a virtual power plant layer for energy sharing and market participation. Results are validated in four living labs in South Korea, Denmark, Italy, and Portugal, with the aim of reducing energy costs, creating new community value, and supporting a just and inclusive clean energy transition.
Nordic Energy Informatics Academy Network (EIA Nordic)

EIA Nordic establishes a collaborative network for energy informatics across the Nordic region, addressing critical challenges in smart energy management, sustainable energy use, green transport, market design, and the societal impacts of energy transitions. The program bridges researchers, industry professionals, and policymakers through annual three-month PhD exchanges, one-week researcher exchanges, and intensive summer schools (each awarding 2 ECTS credits), alongside an annual conference connecting global and Nordic experts. The project also emphasizes inclusivity, hosting dedicated events to empower underrepresented groups, including women and non-binary individuals, in energy informatics research and industry.
IEA IETS Task XXII: Climate Resilience and Energy Adaptation in Industry under Uncertainty

The IEA IETS Task XXII aims to promote understanding and progression in digitalization, Artificial Intelligence (AI), and related technologies, thus facilitating climate resilience and energy adaptation in energy-intensive industries. The Task is organized into three subtasks:
Subtask 1: Climate Adaptation and Energy Resilience in Industry under Uncertainty
Dec 2024 - Sept 2026
Established a shared conceptual and empirical foundation for the Task, reviewing the state of the art, surveying participating countries, and identifying priorities for future collaboration. Produced two peer-reviewed publications, leading to the Climate-Resilient Industrial Flexibility Framework, which now forms the analytical basis for Subtasks 2 and 3.
Subtask 2: Climate Adaptation Readiness and Climate-Related Uncertainty in Industry
Oct 2026 - June 2030
Focuses on climate-related uncertainty and the readiness of industrial systems to anticipate, absorb, respond to, and recover from climate-related disturbances such as heat stress, flooding, storm disruption, water scarcity, and supply-chain interruption.
Subtask 3: Industrial Energy Resilience Under Energy System Uncertainty
Oct 2026 - June 2030
Focuses on energy system uncertainty and the strategies industries use to remain resilient amid volatile energy prices, market rule changes, electrification pressures, renewable variability, infrastructure dependencies, regulatory change, and geopolitical instability.

Subtask 3: Lessons learned and value created with digitalization

The IEA IETS Annex Task XVIII sub-task 3 aims to stimulate the adoption and digitalization technologies for energy efficiency improvement and GHG emissions reduction in the process industries, through evidence case studies, business model innovation and results dissemination.
