Advancing Energy Informatics: Highlights from the EI.A Conference 2024

Bali, Indonesia – October 23rd-25th, 2024: The SDU Center for Energy Informatics recently organized the Energy Informatics Academy Conference 2024 (EI.A 2024), a pivotal event in the field of energy informatics. This year’s conference, co-located with ICITEE 2024, CITEE 2024, and iBioMed 2024, brought together leading experts to discuss the latest advancements in digital technologies and information management aimed at fostering sustainable and resilient energy systems. 


The key paper themes and highlights of the EI.A Conference 2024 include: 

  • IoT, Edge Computing, and Software Innovations in Energy: This theme deals with the application of IoT, edge computing, and software innovations to enhance energy efficiency and management. 

  • Energy Pricing, Trading, and Market Dynamics: Participants were introduced to various innovative approaches to improve the efficiency, transparency, and security of energy markets. Moreover, the potential of cutting-edge technologies to transform energy market operations and support sustainable energy systems was highlighted. 

  • Digitalization of District Heating and Cooling Systems: Various strategies and technologies were explored to address challenges in system operation, fault detection, and energy management, aiming to create more sustainable and resilient thermal energy systems by leveraging digital tools and data-driven methods. 

  • Energy System Resilience and Reliability: The approaches presented under this theme aimed to ensure continuous and reliable energy supply, particularly in remote, rural, and critical infrastructure settings, by leveraging advanced technologies and comprehensive planning models. 

  • Digital Twin Technology and Energy Simulations: This theme highlights the transformative potential of integrating cutting-edge technologies and other innovative approaches into energy market operations. 

  • Big Data Analytics and Cybersecurity in Energy: Participants were introduced to the critical role of data-driven insights and secure data management in advancing energy efficiency and resilience. 

  • Demand Flexibility and Energy Conservation Strategies: The research presented under this theme collectively emphasizes the importance of adaptive and intelligent energy management systems in achieving a sustainable energy future. 

  • Optimization of Energy Systems and Renewable Integration: Various strategies and technologies were explored to help address challenges faced. The approaches presented aimed to improve the flexibility, reliability, and efficiency of modern power grids and energy storage systems in the context of increasing renewable energy penetration and the need for sustainable energy solutions. 

  • Energy Data and Consumer Behaviors: This theme emphasizes the importance of detailed data collection and analysis to improve energy efficiency, optimize demand response, and develop tailored strategies for different consumer segments. 

  • Smart Buildings and Energy Communities: Participants learned about the importance of innovative solutions in achieving energy-efficient and sustainable building operations, as well as different strategies and technologies to optimize energy use, improve system performance, and integrate renewable energy sources.

Overall, the EI.A 2024 had great success, and it served as a vibrant forum for exchanging ideas, fostering collaborations, and driving future advancements in the energy sector. The conference was hosted in continuation of the 2024 Summer School in Energy Informatics, which took place from October 21st-22nd. The aim of the summer school was for the participants to develop advanced skills in understanding and managing the impacts of natural disasters and grid disturbances on energy systems.
